What do all good football handicappers have in common? Besides the obvious idea that they all have a pocket full of money, it can be said that all of these guys have the ability to look at both the stats and the human side of the game. There are many football handicappers out there who will tell you that statistics and trends are the most important thing that you can look at when picking a game. Still, others will tell you that they pick games based upon just what they see and a raw knowledge of the game of football.
Both types of football handicappers are wrong in their analysis. The best guys out there are the ones who can combine the stats and the football savvy. They might be guys who have played football before or coached at a high level. Regardless, they know exactly what is going on out on the field. That does not mean that they ignore statistics, though. Stats exist for a reason and that is to show us what has happened in the past. Good football handicappers understand that stats can be used to predict how a team will perform in the future.
If you ever want to count yourself among the best football handicappers, then you have to come up with an understanding for both the stats and the football itself. With only one of those two, you will be an average football handicapper.
